Incredible photographs and extremely dramatic expecially with the grey overcast sky in the distance. Great work!

Hi Nathan, do you still have permission to visit the property for photos? I am visiting the old abandoned Fever Hospital in Wellington later this month, but would love to be able to photograph at Lake Alice too. Thanks, Susan

The Fever hospital is a great place to visit, I've been there too although it is in far better condition then Lake Alice.

I was driving past lake Alice and as we got closer I got a uneasy feeling and started feeling sick. Have there been rumors of hauntings there?

Well there are some that have suggested the place is haunted. And there are others that would sneak around the place in the dark looking for ghosts. Dismantling the buildings has taken most of the fun out of that. But there are still a lot of lives haunted by their experiences there. So yes, I suppose it is fair to say the place is haunted, or at least, the lives many of those still living, that passed through the place, are. Hope that answers your question.

I was in Villa 6 and received ECT in the early 1985-1989 it was painful and hate the nurses who did it by which by force and control but not fix the problem.
I am still haunted by the abuse beatings by staff and I saw patients being subject to beat some of the weak patients up and they were put in isolation cells and treated like dogs by those who did this.
I was also put in straight jacket a number of times and forced by staff in cold showers and given injections because they thought I would run away from the hospital grounds.
I was also told to turn the knob on the ECT machine by nurses and the psychiatrist on a female and male adolescent patient as part to get an award which was smokes or walk around the grounds of Lake Alice and was I had to do this or I get ECT for the punishment.
I am today fet up the Government has not upheld my claim for compensation I feel I am the suspect which I should be the victim of this matter of such abuse.
I would like closure in this case of the abuse carried out on all patients at Lake Alice because its dragging on and would like to hear from any person willing to talk to me if they want to know more about the abuse at the Psychiatric Hospital.
Please feel free to call me about my blog regards Lake Alice as I can be contacted on 022-092-2712 ask for Chris thanks for your time in hearing my story.

Thats just the way it was back then, you don;t want closure, you want money. Just move on.

The abuse inflicted upon the children under the care of Dr. Leeks occurred during the 70's. By 1979 Dr. Leeks had left LA for Australia. This did not happen circa 1985-89. That said, it does not mean that there was not similar abuse during that period, though, I suspect, not on the scale that occurred under Dr. Leeks.
