I'm really sorry to announce after 4 years of working with the Lake Alice historic abuse case and many wonderful past patients I'm leaving the cause . This has been the most rewarding voluntary work I have ever been involved in and changed my life and taught me things about society I would have never got to learn otherwise, I got to meet some really great people and most of all got to push the fact that Lake Alice was more then a hospital for "mental people" and not everybody who was there had some condition. Thank you to all the fantastic support over the years to my many regulars on the website, blogs, emails you helped me keep the site pumping.
The website will stay online as a archive and I'd like to put more photos online eventually, Thank you again for the last 5 years of lakealicehospital.com I never thought the website would be so big! See you round, Nathan,

hi Nathan, wish I'd found this blog before visiting Lake Alice in the weekend, went out with a couple of friends hoping to get some photos as we heard the owner was demolishing it,to cut a long story short, old mac Donald fired a couple shots at us,so this is a bit of a warning to others, watch out for the crazy farmer guy with the shot gun! Got a couple of nice shots myself, wish I had more time,so tempted to go back......

Lol. Thats crazy, dear you ;) If he gets violent or touches (using the gun to scare people off, not allowed to shot you, but will try to justify it) call the Police as my tyres where slashed once by him and his red necks and thats far worse then "trespassing" the cops always take his side but bloody hell he gets people going out there all the time, he needs to build a bridge he brought Lake Alice FFS. Would be keen to see the photos anyway my emails on contact page, thanks for your comment..

My partner took me out there 2 weeks back but with all the trespass notices up couldn't see much from behind closed gates...My partner was in Lake Alice back in 85-86 n would like some closure by being able to go back n see where she was feels like there's still apart of her out there that she needs closure for...May b next time we r out that way we will go into those houses on site and ask if we can go through and look...Thanks Nathan for the pictures u do have of lake alice....She remembers having to do the Mad Mile walk around it every day is there a lake on site called that or may b was around the outskirts of LA...She would like to hear from other ex inmates that have been in there also back in those times...Once again thanks Nathan for your blog on LA

hi there i am a sister of one of the victims that lived in this nightmare so called place Lake Alice. He was taken out of hokio boys home in Levin along with a dozen other boys and thrown into this crazy place. My brother was clever smart an artist and one police would describe at the age of 14 thinks ahead of his time. He was molested and had shock treatment for sying the word no! totally disgusting no money can ever compensate for the trauma he went through not even my parents knew what was wrong with him when he came home a year later. Mum and Dad thought how wonderful their son is now calm and not the feisty get up and go boy they once knew. In actual fact my parents thought he had been rehabilitated all the time the treatment he had got from Doctor Leeks and the sexual abuse (rape) had damaged him mentally and physically and has made his life turn for the worse. This Doctor should not be allowed to get away with what he did..Lake Alice needed to be burnt down as it was a place of living hell memories for the young boys and other patient that had to indulge in the tormenting treatment they had to go through. My brother was a talented artist by the age of 12 years old. He is now in his 50s and his whole life from the days he stepped out of Lake Alice has and will never ever be normal...You know he never said anything about what went on in Lake Alice until the documentary came out a few years ago. Shame on the staff their that turned a blind eye and most of all the System for letting this Doctor get away with what he did! god bless those patients...Those of yous wanting information about the happenings of what went on at Lake Alice...Let me tell you its sad disgusting that this sick criminal crime took place but most of all imagine if it was your son daughter or worse still your child...What would you be thinking then?
